PetSmart and Mary's Kitty Korner

This winter PetSmart of Enfield's store manager asked Mary's Kitty Korner if we would be interested in working with them once this new store opened up. We, as you can guess, agreed and were very excited to have this new opportunity to make our adoptable cats visible.

At this PetSmart, along with many others, an adoption center was part of the building plan. While PetSmart houses these adoptable animals on location, the individual stores reach out to partner with local shelters to provide the animals and manage their care and adoption.

Below you can see an identical version of our adoption center, with eight single cat sections and one large section for two cats.

As of April, we currently have ten cats at any given time in Enfield. And these cats are very well looked after by the animal lovers at PetSmart as well as our own volunteers.

PetSmart employees check in on the cats every morning before opening to clean the cages and give fresh food and water (and, of course, some loving). Then, throughout the day, they check each cage every hour or so.

At night, Mary's Kitty Korner volunteers come in for a quick shift to let the cats out for a stretch and some play while their cages are cleaned again.

So, all in all, these cats live the good life while waiting to find their forever home.

When someone is interesting in adopting them, PetSmart has our adoption forms next to the adoption center. The adoption process is the same as all of our other cats. (see www.maryskittykorner.org)

We have been having a great time working with PetSmart, but we still need volunteers to work with the cats at night.
