These two adorable sisters are about 6 months old. The all black one is so sweet and friendly, always curious about new people. Her sister is a bit shy, but a total sweetie. They both get along beautifully with other cats and will sleep with other youngsters and play like crazy.

If you are looking for two cuties to bring home, these girls would make a great addition to a cat loving home.

They are good eaters and use their litter box perfectly.

HarleyQuinn & Tiny are up-to-date with routine shots, house trained and spayed/neutered.

Cat of the Week: Sandy

Sandy is a gorgeous calico who is awaiting her new forever home. She is sweet, calm and oh so soft. She would do best in a quiet home, would do fine with another quiet, mellow kitty or alone.

At the shelter she is quite a talker, asking everyone if they want to take her home or at least give her a pet.

Sandy is a cat that would like to be with you, but will not be too demanding for constant attention. She will undoubtedy sleep on the bed, but not on your head!

If you are a senior that is home alot or a person that is looking for a cat to share your evenings while reading or watching TV, Sandy would be perfect!

Please stop by our adoption center in Granby if you are interested in this wonderful cat.

Sandy is up-to-date with routine shots, house trained and spayed/neutered.

Rest in Peace: Patrick

An incredibly sweet cat, Patrick passed away last week after a serious illness.

He was an affectionate and playful cat who got along with everyone in the shelter. He loved to romp with the other cats or find a nice high spot to nap.

When he was ready to go back in with his best friend Mandy, you could find him sitting on the floor in front of his cage, waiting.

Patrick will be missed by everyone who knew him.

Happy Tails:

"Giving you an update on the pet, Willy, that I obtained from you yesterday. Upon release from the carrier, Willy walked around my place as if he owned it. He explored everywhere.

He loves sitting on window sills watching birds outside. Very happy to say, I like Willy very much. He is a very good cat, as a matter of fact he is sitting here in my lap as I type this. I look forward to having Willy as a member of the family for years to come, he is a very good fit."

Cat of the Week: Sandy

Sandy is a beautiful dusty orange tiger with a round American Shorthair face. He's a gentle, shy boy who has one of the loudest purrs around.

Most of the time, Sandy can be found in our bathroom, away from the chaos that other cats may cause.

When you pet him, he immediately begins purring and often enjoys eating and drinking while you pet him. (Which means he somehow purrs like crazy while chewing and drinking.)

Sandy is a special needs kitty because he has asthma and needs life long medicine to treat it.

He would really like to go to a nice, quiet home where he can live a mellow and loving life. Please drop by our adoption center in Granby and visit this handsome boy.

Sandy is up-to-date with routine shots, house trained and spayed/neutered.

Coyotes and Bobcats and Bears, Oh My!

As summer approaches, cats have undoubtedly noticed the warm weather and allure of the outdoors. While many owners struggle to keep their enthusiastic felines indoors, others allow their cats to visit outdoors.

It is important that cat owners understand the dangers cats face every time they step outside.

One of the main dangers cats face is that of predation. Wild predators view house cats as easy prey as these cats have never had to learn to detect and flee from threats.

The pictures below are of predators all seen in Connecticut and Massachusetts by cat owners and shelter volunteers this spring.

As development has increased, bears, bobcats, and coyotes have adapted to living alongside humans, so even living in a more urban environment like Enfield does not protect your cats from these predators.

If you consider your area too urban to have these wild animals, consider the now added danger of more cars and more potentially aggressive dogs in your neighborhood.

So next time you let your cat out, do so with the knowledge that an indoor cat lives an average of 2 years longer than an outdoor cat, with fewer severe injuries and diseases to contend with as well.

Cat of the Week: Vienna

Vienna is an adorable sweet girl who is a joy to have at the adoption center. She never raises a paw to anyone nor have we ever heard her hiss. She gets along great with everyone, from the older cats to the youngest of energetic kittens.

Vienna can usually be found curled up in her favorite basket. If you go over and pet her, she will sigh happily and begin purring.

What Vienna wants more than anything is to be taken to a loving home where she can curl up with someone and feel the love.

She is about 11 months old and has a cute, round body. A great companion cat for a loving family. She is very healthy and ready for her forever home. Come visit her today.

Vienna is up-to-date with routine shots, house trained and spayed/neutered

iGive

In the past year, Mary's Kitty Korner discovered an amazing site where users can earn money for the shelter just by using a search engine!

This site, called iGive.com, is dedicated to donating money to the non-profit of the user's choice. It works in two ways:

First, iGive donates a penny every time you hit search. Just type Mary's Kitty Korner in the "Select Your Cause" area and from then on you'll help us every time you search.

Second, if you register with iGive.com, whenever you make a purchase from over 700 online retailers, a portion of that purchase will be donated to Mary's Kitty Korner. You can buy from hundreds of well known brands like Amazon, Half.com, Lands End, Best Buy, PETsMArt, JCPenny, and Expedia.com.

You could be donating to Mary's Kitty Korner while buying books, buying plane tickets, Christmas shopping, back to school shopping, or any other kind of shopping. (And when you visit an online retailer through iGive, you are informed of any coupons the retailer currently has as well as their donation rate.)

All of your shopping donations are tax deductible or you can remain anonymous if you wish.

Since beginning to use iGive, Mary's Kitty Korner has raised just over $315. The more users we have, the more we can raise just doing the things we normally do!
